Face Mapping & Skin Scanning

The dermalogica range is not based on old-fashioned skin typing, but on a unique system of analysis, allowing the skin therapist to design a personalised treatment for each client.  Combining the latest skin analysis techniques (Black UV light Skin Scanning) with the proven results of Chinese Diagnosis, the face mapping procedure provides the therapist with an objective view of the skin's condition, as well as an indication of the underlying health issues that might be affecting it.  Rather than analysing the skin in general terms, Face Mapping divides the face into 14 distinct zones, assessing individual problems and needs.  Using this inch-by-inch methodical analysis of the facial landscape allows the therapist to prescribe treatment and homecare needs accurately.

Environ Skin Care 

Environ® skin care products have been formulated by Dr Des Fernandes, a prominent Cape Town plastic surgeon, to combat and relieve the harmful effects of the harsh climate changes of today's environment, specifically pollution and ever-increasing doses of radiation from the sun due to the thinning of the protective ozone layer.

The range evolves around the Original skin care creams. These creams contain vitamin A, a free radical scavenging system of beta-carotene, vitamins C and E and pro-vitamin B5. Medical research has shown that vitamin A has a corrective effect on skin, smoothing and softening it, whilst at the same time protecting it from the effects of UV irradiation and free radicals. The most important activity of vitamin A is that it normalises the skin. It promotes the production of healthy collagen and elastin and improves the natural moisturising factors of the skin, leading to healthier, younger looking skin.

Environ Ionzyme Active Vitamin Facial (1½hrs)

Suitable for ALL skin types, except extremely sensitive and young skins. The facial uses pulsed electrical current (Iontophoresis) and ultrasound (Sonophoresis) waves, allowing re-hydrating Vitamin A and C to be absorbed into the skin up to 4000 times more effectively than conventional facials. This facial is known as the 'Rolls Royce of facials', it offers noticeable results even with just one treatment. It thoroughly exfoliates and tightens the skin, softens the expression lines and helps to decrease wrinkles. Recommended on a monthly basis as a conditioning treatment, or as part of a course of treatments working alongside the home use of Environ skincare to speed up the anti-ageing effects.

Environ Prescriptive Facial (1hr)

This facial is a very effective treatment for photo-ageing (lines and wrinkles), pigmentation and post-acne scarring. It focuses on feeding the skin with high doses of Vitamins A and C, which are essential for healthy collagen production and normalisation of melanocytes. Ideally this treatment should be carried out weekly for 12-24 weeks then a maintenance plan of monthly Environ Ionzyme Active Vitamin facials.

Environ Acne Treatment* (45 min)

For the most effective acne treatment this facial should be carried out every 7 to 14 days until the skin has cleared and then repeated at regular intervals for maintenance. N.B. all clients requesting this facial must have pre-treated their skin with Environ proactive creams for at least 3 weeks prior to treatment.

IPL Photo Rejuvination

Sun damage, environmental damage, pigmentation, broken capillaries, lines and wrinkles are a common problem for most males and females over the age of 30.  ALL of these problems can be reduced and controlled by receiving a course of photo-rejuvination treatments. 

The use of photo-rejuvination treatment regularly, will help to stimulate collagen and Elastin and will therefore improve the firmness and overall texture of the skin long term.  It also repairs sun damage, decreases age spots and helps calm roseacea (although there is no known cure for roseacea). 

There isn't any machine, system or treatment that will work on everyone.  However it is estimated that photo-rejuvination will work on 90% of the population.  The results of the treatment will vary from person to person but you should start to see a difference when the skin has had time to have a full renewal process, hence after 21 - 28 days.  The treatments should be performed every 21days to a month apart, the cells must have time to regenerate before the next treatment.

Microderma-brasion

Muscle Relaxation Treatment (Botox)

Facial lines are caused by the repeated use of the facial muscles in a particular manner.  Just as a  freshly ironed shirt will crease when worn at the elbow, as a result of bending the arm, so likewise our facial lines form whenever we frown, squint or smile.  Some people have a distinctive facial habit - frowning, raising eyebrows - and they will in time see a set of facial lines appear which reflect this individual habit.

This treatment is a preventative treatment.  Injections are given, usually to the forehead 'frown area', which temporarily put the frown muscles to sleep for a period of 3-4 months.  This freezing of the muscle is always temporary and can never be permanent.  The aim is to break the habit of frowning, and educate the patient in his or her facial movement so that one 'forgets' how to frown.  Usually patients have several of these injections over a year or two until the frowning habit is broken.  While the muscle is temporarily immobilised, the frown lines are not being created or reinforced.  Botox is most effective for wrinkles in the upper part of the face.  The ideal area to treat is the forehead, frown lines between the eyebrows and crow's feet around the eyes.

The substance injected (a type of botulism toxin) has been used for many years as an accepted form of treatment for squints and nervous ticks.  The substance cannot cause any permanent damage or travel within the body because it attaches itself to the muscle and cannot migrate from there.  The injection technique that is used ensures that the substance cannot pass into the bloodstream.  The action on the muscle is never permanent, that is why the treatments is called 'The Hibernation Treatment' as the patient's frown is frozen into 'hibernation' for a few months.

Dermal Fillers (Restylane injections)

As we grow older, more signs of aging become more evident on our faces. This is recognizable as wrinkles and folds, or nasolabial folds. There are various injectable cosmetic fillers available to help improve upon one's facial appearance and achieve a more youthful look. These fillers add volume and smooth out wrinkles. Collagen and fat are some of the more common fillers. Restylane is a new form of injectable filler that provides advantages over fat and collagen injections.
